How To Prepare For Your Color with Carly Session:
This page will help you to prepare for your upcoming appointment! Below you will find a guide for how to prepare your skin and space. You’ll also see a reminder of what the package includes, as well as a short questionnaire survey to fill out at the end. Please feel the questionnaire out prior to the day of your appointment!
Much of the color analysis and makeup lesson will be a discovery process so I will ask questions about the colors you tend to wear (and don’t!) in clothing and in makeup throughout the session.
An important part of my process is co-collaborating with my clients to ensure that they feel heard and a part of the process. You’ll get to be an active participant in the entire experience. I look forward to working with you!
Your Guide
Skin: Please have a freshly wash faced with no leftover traces of makeup on. This ensures we have a “blank canvas” to work off of for your color analysis session, and then for your makeup lesson. If you have a normal skincare routine that you have been following, I encourage you to continue doing so. I would just avoid any heavy/greasy eye creams, scrubs, or intensive/abrasive skin products.
Space: I’ll need an open space to accommodate my makeup chair, kit, mirror as well as a table-top workspace. Typically, a kitchen or dining room works great. If you have good natural light/windows we can take advantage of that, otherwise no need to worry. I always bring my own lighting with me so we will be good to go regardless of the lighting situation.
Makeup Bag - Bring your makeup bag with you! After the color analysis session, we will go through your makeup bag to see what you are currently using and identify where the gaps are. This also helps me understand how you approach your everyday beauty routine, and where the opportunities to learn are.
Pen & Paper - You might want to take notes as we go along. You can also dot down any tricks or tricks you don’t want to forget. This is also a great way to capture a potential shopping list. You can also take photos of any of my products!
The Flow of Our Session…
Professional Color Analysis Session - We will start our in-person session by determining your harmonious color palette using professional drapes from the Italian Image Institute. This covers undertone which is essential for makeup color choices. You’ll also find out what colors will work best for you based on your skin’s chromatic features. The results of this color analysis will inspire your clothing and jewelry personal styling choices going forward, and show how using your personal color palette in makeup enhances your natural beauty.
Makeup Lesson - After going through your makeup bag, we’ll figure out where we can elevate your beauty routine in both technique and color. We will refer back to the color analysis drapes to highlight why your undertone (warm or cool) works best for you. We will also make sure to cover the topics you mentioned in your pre-session questionnaire.
Shopping List - Based on our makeup bag and makeup lesson process, we can work together to create a list of products and shades for you to shop for. This will help you to implement, and create a plan to use, what you’ve learned.
Digital Guide - After our session, I will email you a digital guide for your color palette alongside makeup color suggestions. You’ll be able to bring this with you for future beauty and style shopping trips. You can also ask me any lingering questions or show me what new products you’ve added to your makeup bag.
